Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas has launched the LPG Transparency Portal under Government to Citizen (G2C) service category.Click on the above link or paste the following url in your browser:-

As per National Portal of India,

LPG consumers can know their individual pattern of LPG usage, LPG booking status, LPG refill history or request for surrender of their connection, highest consumption consumers, subsidy availed etc. The information on the portal can also be sorted by consumer number, consumer name and by distributors’ name.

Actually, this portal links to three different LPG Transparency Portals belonging to different Oil and Gas Marketing Companies. The url for each of them are:-

Using these portals, you can do various tasks like:-

• Rate your distributor
• Register complaints
• Find top users in an area
• Surrender a connection
• Find your pattern of consumption, details of refill supplies, etc.
• Find out the amount of subsidy that you have utilized by using the subsidized LPG

This is a nice initiative. This portal will empower and benefit the consumers. Hope it evolves with time and is made more user-friendly.

India Facing Cash Crunch on High Tax Refunds

Don’t panic. It is temporary cash crunch that the government of India is facing on account of tax refunds of nearly Rs 45,000 crore during April and May. But this cash crunch is prompting it to resort to short-term borrowing.

People might be thinking that this is an annual affair but why is it happening now? While tax refund is an annual affair, the use of electronic return filing and processing has resulted in faster refund of excess income. Corporation tax payment has resulted in the process getting expedited and a lot of bunched payments taking place in the first two months. In April alone, the tax refunds are estimated at Rs 30,000 crore to Rs 32,000 crore and another Rs 10,000 crore to Rs 15,000 crore would be added next month.

During the days of paper returns, a taxpayer’s details had to be punched manually. This was then tallied and refunds, if any, were processed. The whole process used to take time and the tax refund was spread across several months giving the government time to access its credit situation and work accordingly.

Now, with electronic filing the entire information is available at a click of a button. IT revolutionized I-T. The refund which used to be sent through cheques or transferred to the accounts now takes lesser time as instructing banks for electronic refunds is much faster way then it was before.

Chhau, Kalbelia, Mudiyettu in UNESCO’s Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity

UNESCO announced this month that three Indian elements were among the 46 inscribed on the Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity. But why didn’t it make any noise? Why did no one notice it?

Anyway,  three Indian performing-art forms that have been inscribed are the Mudiyettu, a ritual theatre of Kerala; the Chhau dance, a tradition from eastern India; and the Kalbelia folk songs and dances of Rajasthan.

Shouldn’t there be a limit to Opinion-based Columns and News?

I don’t remember when I first read the editorial of any newspaper. But it has been a long time now. I have been watching newspapers because of my interest in the news and reading newspapers. What is interesting to note is the increase in the devotion to columnists and opinion based articles. It has become a trend to generate views and debate over them and keep on doing so for a long time. People are also asked to participate in debates and it continues. While few of the people make their original views, millions of others are forced to accept one of the several views and million others remain confused.
